Neon Living Colour

Neon is certainly alive and revived from the 80’s. I was lucky enough to live though the 80’s and experience neon the first time around, but luckily nowadays neon is much more stylish and useable. The key to incorporating neon into your life, whether it is into your home or wardrobe, is to do it in small doses. Use your chosen neon colour as an accent to make your interior pop. Also look out for ‘faded’ neons, they look great too and are much more subtle yet still funky and on-trend enough to rock this look. Buy into this trend while it is still summer, and those readers in the Southern Hemisphere – get your neon pieces now to lead this trend and brighten up your winter homes.

Here are a few favourite buys to inject some Living Colour Style into your life:

Magnolias in bloom – Friday Flowers

The very exotic Magnolia flower teases all flower lovers around this time of year. Just like a lady with class, she only let us glimpse her beauty for a very short time. Count yourself lucky if your get to enjoy her beautiful blooms for more than a week or two at a time. Although the grand, big, oversize white ‘Magnolia Grandiflora‘ is spectacular in its own way, I like the delicacy of the smaller Magnolia X ‘Serene’ with the saucer shaped leaves in white and blush pink. I like how the tree carries its flowers before the leaves emerge, making sure that nothing distracts from their beauty. No wonder that certain species of magnolia is said be dating back to ancient times, confirming that beauty is indeed timeless.

These beautiful branches I have picked, with permission, from my neighbours garden. Three stems was enough to make a show in these vintage Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston England vases. These vases are part of a small collection I have collected over time. I think they are such classic pieces suited to many flowers, but today they are more than worthy of the elegant Magnolia.

Green Vintage Glass – Friday Flowers

So I have to come clean, it’s always best to be honest and confess. I have a mild obsession with glassware, and as my friends will tell you, also the colour green. And although I absolutely love all colours, each holding something special for me, my absolute favourite has to be green. All shades of green, lime, moss, mint, sage, emerald, bottle-green, chartreuse – I adore them all.

So it was inevitable that I end up with a selection of vintage green stemmed glasses. Very few of them matching or in pairs, but to me that only adds to their charm.

Picking the last of the Spring blossoms was a joyful task, although also slightly sad, as I realised it will be another whole year before I can enjoy picking them again.

All to soon the table centre display was finished. The selection of odd vintage glasses, filled with white blossoms and  presented on a green glass tray, looked lovely on my dining table.

This whole look took me about 10 minutes to do, including picking flowers, cleaning and filling the glasses and then arranging them. If you want to recreate this, of course any other stemware glasses will look great too, play with different heights to add interest and keep your flower selection simple.
