Outdoor Living, Create a Room Outside

Contemporary, Country or Tropical, regardless what your garden trend of choice is this summer, the one thing that they all have in common, is to create a fabulous living area outside. The kind of space that can almost be seen as a second living room. Ideal and easily done if you have doors opening up into the garden or onto the patio. Just add great outdoor lounge furniture and dress them up in the latest colours. But if you have a balcony or small living area this can also be achieved by choosing the right small pieces to suit your space. And even if you have no garden at all, pack a picnic as often as the weather allows and create your own special outdoor room with the added bonus of a different location every time.

Here are a few pretty pictures to inspire you with great pieces of furniture that allows you to buy into the summer dream.

Summer elegance Scandi style, Broste Copenhagen

Make the most of the upcoming summer and those long summers evenings, just like the Scandinavians do, and create a fabulous outdoor living space. Dress it with gorgeous items like lanterns, floor fusions, chunky knit pouffes and tableware ready to entertain. I love this new colour palette from Broste Copenhagen, primary colours that have a faded look to them, red turning into raspberry, blue shading into aqua and yellow fading into dark creams.

M&S Outdoor Living Trends, Summer ’14

The good thing about this time of year is, while it is still cold and wet outside and not quite Spring yet, I get to go to the Summer shows seeing what’s new for the season. The designers and buyers at M&S have been really busy, they revealed 5 different looks. Below is the my favourite 2.

M&S Outdoor Love-seat Lounger Summer 2014

Indoor-outdoor living is still a huge trend. Make it contemporary with this cosy love-seat lounger. The colour palate is very stylish, black combined with a neutral taupe. They have used yellow in an acid shade as an accent colour. But any other bright colour would work here too.

M&S Hurricane Lanterns and Planters, Summer 2014

Hurricane lanterns are key. I like these modern ones, great for outside candle light in the summer and during the winter months they will work well indoors too. Large planters in organic shapes are great and I love the texture on these ones.

M&S Blue and White, Summer 2014

Blue, blue, blue, is luckily still here for another season. Even more popular than ever, dark blue and white combinations are everywhere. The vivid contrast makes this look a real modern classic. I love the white woven furniture, their slim arms gives this classic style and updated look. Perfect for the conservatory, beach house (if you’re lucky enough to have one) or ideal in a sunny room. Accessorise with oversized items like large vases and bowls. Textiles could go either beach and nautical inspired or more modern with a graphic geometric print.

M&S recycled glass vases

M&S Recycled Glass Oversize Vases, Summer 2014

I just have to have these oversize recycled glass vases. Big enough to display on the floor, or make a bold statement with them all grouped together on a table. Even one will do with a single branch inside. They are a nice take on the original vintage glass trend.
