Jewell Colours – Friday Flowers

The deep regal purple and emerald-green of this flower got my attention straight away in the flower shop. The vibrant colours reminded me of a jewels and I knew I had the right vase for them. The Japanese Gentian is a very striking looking plant with purple flowers budding between the leaves and then springing from these long green stems.

Just two stems was enough to make a real show in this vintage vase, an old emerald and turquoise handblown glass vase I picked up at the local charity shop for £1, one of my best bargains ever.

The luscious greens shading into turquoise is so mesmerising and because of the age of the vase it reminded me of another heirloom piece, a neckless I got from my mother, one she wore in days gone by. The turquoise crystal necklace with the gold and green stone clasp is just so pretty and special to me.

Green Vintage Glass – Friday Flowers

So I have to come clean, it’s always best to be honest and confess. I have a mild obsession with glassware, and as my friends will tell you, also the colour green. And although I absolutely love all colours, each holding something special for me, my absolute favourite has to be green. All shades of green, lime, moss, mint, sage, emerald, bottle-green, chartreuse – I adore them all.

So it was inevitable that I end up with a selection of vintage green stemmed glasses. Very few of them matching or in pairs, but to me that only adds to their charm.

Picking the last of the Spring blossoms was a joyful task, although also slightly sad, as I realised it will be another whole year before I can enjoy picking them again.

All to soon the table centre display was finished. The selection of odd vintage glasses, filled with white blossoms and  presented on a green glass tray, looked lovely on my dining table.

This whole look took me about 10 minutes to do, including picking flowers, cleaning and filling the glasses and then arranging them. If you want to recreate this, of course any other stemware glasses will look great too, play with different heights to add interest and keep your flower selection simple.
