Neon is certainly alive and revived from the 80’s. I was lucky enough to live though the 80’s and experience neon the first time around, but luckily nowadays neon is much more stylish and useable. The key to incorporating neon into your life, whether it is into your home or wardrobe, is to do it in small doses. Use your chosen neon colour as an accent to make your interior pop. Also look out for ‘faded’ neons, they look great too and are much more subtle yet still funky and on-trend enough to rock this look. Buy into this trend while it is still summer, and those readers in the Southern Hemisphere – get your neon pieces now to lead this trend and brighten up your winter homes.
Here are a few favourite buys to inject some Living Colour Style into your life:
FADED NEON. A gorgeous simple and modern design, this table and chairs, made from bent plywood has a gentle colour wash in yellow, allowing the grain of the wood to still show through. I love the simplicity and almost toy-like design of the furniture. Ayres table, £300, chairs, £120 each, Habitat (PS: on sale now – link though to see sale price, be quick!)
FUN FACTOR. If you are also a fan of ‘the white bedding brigade’, then step outside your comfort zone and spice up your bedding with a set of new pillowcases (you don’t have to commit to a whole new neon duvet set!). Or liven up the sofa or armchair with a hot pink spotty cushion. I guarantee you will smile every time you see them. ‘La Cerise sur le Gateau’ Eiffel Tower with Dots Cushion Cover Pink & ‘La Cerise sur Le Gateau’ Clogs and Dots Cushion Cover Yellow, £32 each, Fred & Pickles.
CLASSIC NEON. An old classic gets a mini makeover with a bold neon transformation. And if you were ever in any doubt, the fact that the colour is by Pantone, should give it enough credibility to convince even the biggest colour critic. Whitbread & Wilkinson Pantone Coffee Maker Green Shoots, £19.98, Amazon.
DRIP DELUX. Subtle enough not to scare away your partner but uber trendy combining the ‘drip-trend’ and neon in one super cool vase. The perfect accessory with or without a flower. Block neon Drip Vase in Pink, £21, Red Candy
VAMPED-UP VINTAGE. This is my ‘Must Have’, I have fallen in love with this lamp and have dreamed up so many locations for it in my home that I no longer think that only one is enough. I just fell in love with the vintage decanter style that is funked up with the bright Chartreuse body. Chartreuse Victorian Decanter Lamp, £180, Little Mill House (PS: They have a sale on, so be quick before I snap them all up)
NEON LIGHTING. Taking and making this trend literally, this neon letter signage are the most fabulous floor lamps. I bet you will be tempted once you have seen your own initial lit up. I just had to show you the lime green T. Delightfull T Floor Lamp, £3110, Luxdeco
WIRED UP. The brightness of these candlesticks show of their gorgeous curvy design beautifully, they will make a great gift or a little spoil for yourself to start off this trend in your own home. Neon Wire Candle Sticks, Orange, £16, Yellow, £14, Oliver Bonas
NAILS IN NEON. I just could not resist a neon beauty moment. Work these colourful babies with your summer wardrobe, they scream attention seeker.
